Listen every Saturday morning 7-8. We are TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS as we spotlight the fine "area" businesses and get to meet the fine area businessmen and businesswomen who provide such great products and services to us here in Central Pennsylvania....and alot of times....maybe some services and products you may not be aware of or know are available here in our area.
It is our mission to support our local businesses because nowhere will you get better value and customer service than with a locally owned and operated business.
"We're Takin Care of Business".....Saturday mornings on WHP Talk Radio 580
I have lived in Central PA since the early 80's. I grew up outside of Uniontown, PA in the southwestern part of the state in a VERY small coal mining town. Worked on the farm, in the mines, drove truck and worked hard. Went to college at West Virginia University from 1975-79. Was offered my first radio job at WAJR/WVAQ in Morgantown, WV right out of school. In fact, I picked up my diploma Sunday afternoon at 2PM and started that day on the air at 4PM.
I moved to Harrisburg and Central PA in 1984 to get out of radio, but ended up being offered a job at WKBO and then Sunny 99. I was very fortunate in meeting Kathi Wise (Homecoming Queen-CD East 1978) when we worked together at 99.3 FM in the late 80's and we were married in October of 1992. Our first son Jordan was born in October of 1993. Our second son Matthew was born in September of 1997. We have lived in the Linglestown area at the base of the mountain since 97 and are blessed to have WONDERFUL neighbors and friends who we enjoy our spare time with.
We have quite a menagerie. A gorgeous black lab named Casey, a FAT cat named Ramsey and also Sabrina...a white cat we rescued from a shelter who we later found out cannot hear.
I love the area and am proud to call it home. But still a proud supporter of the Pittsburgh Pirates, Steelers and Penguins....and of course the WVU Mountaineers.
Along with my on air work Saturday mornings on WHP, I am the full time Creative Director for the 5 Clear Channel-Harrisburg radio stations. I write and produce many of the commercials you hear. I am also the voice on commercials you hear on other area radio stations and on local TV.
I also "produce" other radio programs including Let's Talk Travel With Sandy Fenton and The Old Barn Hockey Show and Legends Of Success with John Resnick which is broadcast nationwide.
I live by the motto of FAITH & STRENGTH. I am blessed to have a job and career that I love. I enjoy coming to work every single day. I love life and love to laugh. And I will always greet you with a smile.
7-7:30 WEIGHT LOSS-DIETING-DOING IT WITH RJ HARRIS
You've heard bits and pieces. But now RJ wants to share the entire story of his struggle with being overweight and how he beat the odds and the skeptics and achieved not only a modest goal but went beyond even his wildest dreams and accomplished something probably not even he could have expected.
Our buddy Bill Hornung always thought it would make a good story on the radio and I agreed. So we all got together and decided to spend a half hour sharing RJ's success story in dropping HUNDREDS of pounds and getting down to 185. So here is his story. I hope you enjoy and perhaps it can help you.
7:30-8 BETHESDA MISSION 2012-2013
Winter's bitter cold and bone chilling winds make it uncomfortable for you and me. But for the homeless, the poor, the people in need.....winter cold is so much worse. But there is warmth, there is hope, there is help within the walls of The Bethesda Mission.
But The Mission is more than just a warm bed and a hot meal. It's helping people to get back on their feet, free them from the grasp of drug and alcohol. Putting them back on the path to living a good life.
Scott Dunwoody from The Bethesda Mission talks about what "Bethesda" means and what really goes on inside the mission. We'll learn how you can help, and also hear about the great accomplishments that YOU helped them achieve with your generosity during last year's "180" campaign. And we'll learn about some other very generous donations that were made and will be made this year.
The Bethesda Mission this year celebrates its 100th anniversary, and so far it looks like it's gonna be a blessed celebration.
