Q:  Why is it necessary to take dental x-rays?

Taking annual x-rays allows us to find problems that can not otherwise be detected. Finding and treating conditions such as decay and gum disease as early as possible helps to avoid more extensive and expensive treatment such as root canals and gum surgery.

Q:  Why is it so important to check my gums?

We want you to keep all of your teeth your whole life instead of--all of your whole life. Since more adults lose teeth from gum disease than tooth decay, it is important to make sure your gums are healthy. In addition, unhealthy gums have been shown to contribute to other diseases such as heart disease and diabetes. Your gums should be checked carefully with a periodontal measuring at lease once a year. This will let us start treatment at the earliest possible time when it will be the easiest, least costly, and most effective time to treat.
